Hi, I'm Jodi.
Since my college days, I have alternated between working in the legal field and being a photographer, finding it hard to do both simultaneously with six kiddos, and feeling like I had to choose one. But now, I'm choosing both. But this time, with more of my family's help.
On our first date, standing in line for Splash Mountain at Disneyland, my husband encouraged me to go to law school. I was 18 and had just started working for an estate attorney. That dream was too big for me to ponder. I was hired to file papers. Not pursue a doctorate degree. I was terrified of failing. And of the California Bar Exam. No one in my family had gone to college, much less pursued an advanced degree.
It took me a while to believe in myself (decades, in fact), but here I am, a rising 3L at Regent Law School. (If you have watched Legally Blond, you might know that "3L" refers to my third (and last) year in law school.) I have savored my time at law school, but it's hard to balance being a mom and a law student. I'm competing with people half my age with no families, commute, houses or chickens to take care of. I'm looking forward to graduation next May.
But this summer, I get to do what I love. I'm working part time with a local estate attorney, trying to learn all that I can. And outside of that, my playground is the great outdoors chasing families and fireflies with a camera in hand. (I just pressed the shutter on my first Hasselblad image last week so I'm still learning in the photography realm as well.)
So. Grab a cup of tea (or coffee if you must) and join my journey into two worlds that may seem worlds apart, but are actually connected more than it seems.
